Commentary to Videopresentation

Dubinné village extends in Nízke Beskydy (Low Beskids). First written mention of the village comes from 1327, when it was already developed seat. It’s almost unbelievable that all history of the village is in memory of 850 years old forest oak – the oldest tree in Slovakia. It is 25 meters high and 20 meters wide. By tradition we know that original settlement, from which the village grown up, originated right next to this oak. Our Slavonic ancestors idolatrized this tree. Reputedly the Virgin appeared here and therefore inhabitants built chapel near to it. Religious dominant of Dubinné is Roman Catholic Church from 1863. Since 1971 the village administrates nursery school. From original traditional habits still subsists walking with crib. At the past successful voluntary theater and folkloric choir Dubinčan performed here. Big water reservoir, which should have served as water source, was built at 1992 at agricultural cooperative. Today it is fishpond. Yearly fishing competition is organized here. But water doesn’t only help. Not regulated river-basin of Topľa river, together with its affluents, yearly causes big damages by floods.
