Picturesque village Komárnik lies in northern part of Nízke Beskydy, on upper part of valley Ladomírky next to state border with Poland. First written mention of the village comes from 1600. It was one of Ruthenian villages in Makovica manor. Religious monument of Vyšný Komárnik is timber Greek Catholic cathedral built at 1924 consecrate to St. Kozma and Damian. It is three-room log religious building in lemkov style. Vyšný Komárnik was first village in the area of former Czechoslovakia that was liberated by group of 1. Czechoslovak military brigade at 6th of October 1944. After fights the village was recovered and laureate by Red Star. Monument and cemetery of 1. Czechoslovak military brigade members that is national historical landmark as well as natural army museum in Dukla’s pass commemorate hard fights during Carpathian-Dukla operation. Vyšný Komárnik offers to its visitors a piece of history, wonderful natural environment and good services in the sphere of tourism.
